Indigenous Hawaiians in the most beautiful clothes and colours and flowers dance in the beginning and at the end of this extraordinary film from the 1980s. Tourists from all over the world enjoy the welcome. The wreaths of flowers are called lei and their tradition is ancient. The custom goes back to first Polynesian settlers who populated Hawaiian islands 1500 years ago. Our film is old but not that old. It brings us wonderful shots from paradise in the Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is a state in the Western United States located about 2000 miles from the U.S. mainland. It is the only state outside North America, the only state that is an archipelago, and the only state in the tropics. Hawaii is also one of four U.S. states that were once independent nations along with Vermont, Texas and California. Hawaii comprises nearly the entire Hawaiian archipelago, 137 volcanic islands spanning 1500 miles (2400 km) that are physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania. The eight main islands, from northwest to southeast, are Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lānai, Kahoolawe, Maui and Hawaii. Honolulu, which is the first location of this film, is the capital of Hawaii - situated along the southeast coast of the island of Oahu. Honolulu is Hawaii's main gateway to the world. It is also a major hub for international business, finance, hospitality, and military defense in both the state and Oceania. The city is characterized by a mix of various Asian, Western, and Pacific cultures. Sea Life Park Hawaii is a marine mammal park, bird sanctuary and aquarium in Waimānalo near Makapuʻu Point, north of Hanauma Bay on the island of Oahu. The park first opened in 1964, and includes exhibits that let visitors interact with the animals by swimming with dolphins, sea lions, and rays, taking a sea safari in the aquarium, and feeding the sea turtles. The Hawaiian Reef Aquarium is a 300000-US-gallon (1.100 m3) tank that is home to more than 2000 reef animals, including sharks, stingrays, turtles, and schools of tropical fish. Waimea Falls, also known as Waihi Falls, is one of the more accessible falls on Oahu. It is located within Waimea Valley, which is a unique Hawaiian botanical garden within a significant cultural and archaeological site. The place is dedicated to the preservation of the incredible botanical and cultural features of the area. The 45 foot (13,7m) waterfall is part of Kamanui Stream that flows from the north end of the Koolau Mountains on Windward side Oahu all the way through Waimea Valley to join the Waimea River to the ocean.
