The Imaginary Invalid, adapted and based from the 300 year old play by Moliere and made into this comic opera in three acts, by American composer James Nathaniel Holland. Except set in the golden age of Hollywood in the 1930s. (total Opera duration: 1 hour, 45 minutes) Small cast, no chorus. Act III, SYNOPSIS: Entr'acte 0:00 Argan's studio partner and godfather to Angelique, Bertrande, is who Rudina had in mind to help them and arrives at the mansion to try to talk to Argan. Scene I 2:30 Purgeon and son arrive, but Bertrande tells Rudina to make them wait. He sings. Aria "No one Knows the Rhyme or Reason 9:28 Purgeon burst his way in and demands to know why their appointment is canceled. 12:04 The doctor is flushed out by Bertrande who shows he has made the papers. Dr. Purgeon storms out and cancels any wedding plans with Angelique. Argan is distraught at losing his doctor, but Rudina says there happens to be another waiting to see him. (It's Rudina in Graucho Marx disguise) and gives Argan a somewhat questionable consultation. Jazz Trio "Let me sirs, introduce myself" 14:35 Now with one villiain down, there remains the wife. 18:34 Rudina again comes to the rescue and suggests that Argan play opossum 20:48 to prove that Betty June's love is real. But with the thought of Argan finally gone, the mask comes off and B.J. revels in her good fortune. Coloratura aria "I'm Free!" 22:37 After that Argan throws Betty June out, but Rudina suggest they continue to see how Angelique will react. 26:26 Angelique and Clinton enters and she reacts with deep sorrow. 28:26 Now that all is out, Argan jumps up and asks forgiveness for being such a fool. Angelique has his blessing to marry Clinton. And all sing an energetic finale of taking the hardships of life one day at a time.
