Universal Joint Coupling Animation

Universal Joint Coupling Couplings are used to connect two different shafts. They are used to connect the prime mover with the actuator and other intermediate transmission systems. Universal joint couplings can transmit power between two shafts that are inclined at certain angle. This coupling can tolerate the variations in the inclination angle caused due to shaft misalignment while running. The shaft ends are provided with rigid C shaped forks with holes on it. Forks of the two shafts are displaced 90° mechanically in order to make the coupling to yield in any direction during rotation. Connecting pin also known as spider is inserted into the fork holes to make a flexible connection between the two shafts.
