I wake up in Kunduz, Afghanistan with breakfast in bed - something I never expected while traveling solo on a motorcycle in this country. After that, I set out into the city to find the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of External Affairs to arrange the permits required for my journey ahead. I also try to find a local SIM card, but things don’t go as planned. By afternoon, it’s time to say goodbye to Kunduz and continue riding toward Kabul. The road is filled with frequent Taliban checkposts, but instead of tension, I experience surprisingly friendly conversations, curiosity, and hospitality. As the sun begins to set, I reach Pul-e-Khumri, and darkness falls quickly. While searching for a hotel in the busy streets, I meet Hamza and his friend on a small 70cc motorcycle. What happens next is something I never expected - they invite me to their home. Even the Taliban stop me on the way and question why I’m going to stay with strangers. But eventually, they allow me to continue. That night, I experience something truly special - the warmth, kindness, and incredible hospitality of an Afghan family, who welcome me like their own, in a land that was once completely unfamiliar to me.
