Song: Siouxsie and the Banshees - Spellbound I DO NOT SUPPORT ANY POLITICAL VIEW IN THE VIDEO, I MAKE THESE FOR FUN The Oka Crisis, also sometimes called the Kanesatake Resistance, was a 78-day-long standoff between Mohawk protesters and the Canadian Government over an extension of a golf course and the building of townhouses on disputed land which was located south of Montreal. This land was the location of a Mohawk burial site which was a major reason for much of the anger directed towards to government during the crisis. The Mohawks and other sympathizers would block and create roadblocks to prevent the expansion of the golf courses after the government refused to change their plans. The municipal government escalated the crisis by forcefully removing the protesters resulting in a firefight that would kill a Sûreté du Québec officer. After the officer's death, the army was called upon to bring an end to the crisis. In the aftermath of the crisis, both sides experienced a few deaths as a consequence. In the end, the government purchased the land from the golf course to prevent further arguments over the ownership of it, it would not be returned to the Mohawks though, leaving the ownership of the land still disputed. The golf course would never be built...
