Now 82 years old, former MP Dover Samuels speaks out about the brutality he suffered as a child when he spoke Māori at school in the 1940s. In 2015, he made a claim to the Waitangi Tribunal for a formal apology from the Government to acknowledge the mamae for children of being beaten for speaking te reo at native schools.
