Steam Train Nostalgia Reliving the Golden Age of Railways!

🚂 The Lost Shed of Speke Junction – 8C Garston 🚂 Hidden away in a triangle of lines near Garston, Speke Junction shed (8C) was once one of Liverpool’s busiest depots. Opened in 1886 by the London & North Western Railway, this 12-road straight shed housed everything from Stanier Black 5s and 8Fs to the mighty 9Fs and rugged Super Ds. It served the docks and local yards with heavy freight, but after the closure of Brunswick shed in 1961, it also provided engines for passenger services across the North West. By 1955, the depot had been modernised with a mechanical coaling stage, sand-drying plant, and even diesel facilities as steam gave way to modern traction. But despite its importance, Speke closed its doors on 6 May 1968, with the building demolished shortly after. A diesel stabling point lingered until 1993, before nature reclaimed the site.
