Gene Autry, the iconic "Singing Cowboy," starred in a film titled "The Last Round-Up," released in 1947. It was his first widely recognized film and his first under Columbia Pictures. In this Western, Autry plays a rancher tasked with convincing a Native American tribe to relocate their reservation. The land is needed for a vital water aqueduct to supply Kansas City. While the city officials offer comparable land, a local banker opposes the deal, hoping to profit by foreclosing on the ranchers' land if they can't pay their debts. Autry works to ensure a fair deal for both the ranchers and the Native Americans, facing opposition and attempts to stir up conflict. Ultimately, through his honesty and with the help of a schoolteacher, Autry exposes the banker's schemes, brings the community together, and ensures justice prevails. The film features Autry's singing talents and his trusty horse, Champion, blending classic Western action with musical interludes.
