For many, working at Alberta Health Services is a family tradition. At the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Brandon Ruiz is the third generation in his family to work at the site. He follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Norman Kenneth Schmidt who started at the Royal Alex in 1966 and went on to become the director of finance. Most days, Brendan can be seen visiting with his parents, who are both Royal Alex employees, on his lunch break. His mother joined his grandfather at the hospital 38 years ago, and his father joined the Royal Alex team 25 years ago.
