Well, this is what we are going to talk about today. Valerian is a plant with the scientific name Valeriana officinalis. The plant grows wild in grasslands throughout North America, Asia, and Europe and the root has for a long time now been used to help things like Anxiety, headaches, stress and insomnia. But does valerian root really work for anxiety? Well unfortunately it looks like valerian root works a bit better for insomnia than for helping anxiety. So far,Studies done on anxiety done on humans have not really been able to show convincing results, but on the other hand, there hasn’t been a lot of them either. The only study showing valerian to be real potent for reducing anxiety is made on...rats. Yes, and unfortunately that does not necessarily mean humans respond the same. However, it is still interesting and there are indeed people who swear valerian root calm them down. In the study on rats they did find that valerian seem to interact with the GABA(A)-ergic system, you know the action similar to benzodiazepines, but again nor real convincing data on humans. Now, I always want to share both science as well as my own experience to make my videos more helpful, so what are my personal experiences with valerian root?
