In this video, I talk about how to choose a graduate supervisor. Thesis Help videos are all about thriving and surviving in any form of graduate school, whether it is going in to a MBA program, a PhD or a DBA program. Finding a supervisor for graduate school is quite difficult for most people, and often takes a bit of time for grad students. It is difficult to choose your PhD and to choose your PhD advisor. Why is it important to choose a great masters or PhD supervisor? They will help you get a career, pick you up when you are down, and work with you for a very long time. Doing a graduate school degree is very time-consuming and requires a lot of resources over a very long period of time. Choosing a good supervisor will be helpful for you to be able to choose a doctorate program. How do you choose a graduate supervisor / advisor? There are four criteria that I think are important for your choice for the graduate advisor. Again, the choice of a supervisor in College or University really depends on you. 1. Fit with your interests. You have to work for somebody that you find that they have interesting research. If you want, you can read some of their papers. Look to see where they did their graduate school and who they did their graduate school with. This will define their research network. 2. Research style with the research supervisor. This is perhaps the most important. Have several interviews with them if you can, to see if they are easy to work with, and they fit your working style. 3. Look to see where their graduates were replaced. Having a track record of doing good research is very important for you to get an academic position in the future. 4. Academia is a small world and other people likely know the potential PhD supervisor. Ask around to as many people as you can, once you get serious about a couple of candidates. Some people will give you some sage advice. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements. r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money. The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
