Presenting the brand new Luxdisplays replacement display for the Roland MKS-50 sound module. This is a custom built and adapted design that utilises the entire glass area of the front panel, giving you a larger display and readout than the original. It's a high quality pmva LCD display with a high contrast with several color options available (white, blue, red or vintage yellow/green on black). I have opted for the white on black in this tutorial. An important note about this display is that it’s designed to work with the original operating system, it doesn't need the eprom "hacked" like the other displays. Nothing is required. I know there's a controversy regarding the manufacturer in some retro synth communities and many prefer the cheap DIY generic displays from China to save a few bucks. But you know what, if that's you, then this video isn't for you at all. Just the way it is. DIY display often need lots of adjustment, detailed soldering and often adjustments to eproms and such. However, if you want a ready to go display, with just some simple mounting needed, then this might just be your cup of tea. At the time of writing, the display under finalizind and production, but will soon be available for purchase on eBay. The price is estimated at around £95.
