MIAMISBURG -- Winter weather is certainly here in the Miami Valley and some school district called off school Monday, but will they on Tuesday when the temperatures at bus stop time will be 12-degrees, with a wind chills of 3-below-zero. "It's kind of unexpected. My neighbor asked if I had gloves today and I said no, winter snuck up on me," said Lisa Cummins. The below freezing temperatures snuck up on much of the Miami Valley as well. "It's cold and it's too early to be this cold," said Andrea Webb. But the temperatures are expected to dip into the single digits overnight making it a frigid morning for kids. "With the temperature dropping that low it is concerning for children standing out waiting at the bus stop," said Cummins. We spoke to Dayton Public Schools and Springfield City Schools about their weather policies. Both districts say they don't just factor in the temperatures, but some parents say, they should. "At that point do you think that point do you think school should be canceled or delayed if it does get that cold?" asked the reporter, "Yeah, I do, I honestly do," said Cummins. Miamisburg kids didn't have school Monday and some are hoping, they won't on Tuesday either, because waiting at the bus stop is... "Horrible," said Abigayle Grushon. Grushon is in 8-th grade and has waited outside in the cold before. "I wear hats and I wear scarves and I like to wear big peacoats," said Grushon. Making sure your kids are bundled up is necessary, but some parents, have another solution. "I probably would just keep them in the house and then watch for the bus and make them run," said Webb. But no matter what happens snow day or not.... "It's just cold, it's OK, we'll all live," said Webb. Both districts we spoke to say they have to factor in road conditions, whether or not their buses will start in the cold temperatures and many other things before they will make a decision to delay or call school off. If you want to know how "your" child's bus policy works check online or give them a call during office hours.
