The first stop on our Bali trip is the Maya Ubud Resort & Spa. The beautiful 5-star hotel is located outside of Ubud in a direct “jungle” location on a hill between two valleys. Set in 10 hectares of lush tropical gardens, the complex rises overlooking rice fields and tropical forest. The path through the garden is lined with palm trees and ends at the ceremonial square, from where the view opens up into the hidden Petanu river valley. The hotel's own "Forest Trail" leads through the forest and down to the river. Despite its location close to the vibrant cultural center of Ubud, it is completely quiet. The hotel's architecture combines modern and Balinese elements and blends beautifully with nature. All 48 rooms in the three-story main building are modernly equipped and have a balcony. We stayed in one of these rooms in the “Impressive Forest Suite” category. There are also 60 villas with a whirlpool or private pool, which are more expensive than the rooms in the main building. The hotel has three restaurants offering Asian, international and European cuisine: Mayasari Restaurant offers a sumptuous buffet for breakfast and international and Indonesian dishes for lunch and dinner. Dinner is accompanied by Balinese music and traditional Balinese dances. The Tree Bar is located above the valley. We visited her in the afternoon at coffee time. The choco crepe was delicious! There is also an à la carte breakfast and smaller options for lunch and dinner. The River Café is located on the banks of the Petanu River near the spa. The menu includes salads, snacks as well as pasta dishes and pizzas. The café is open during the day. We arrived in Bali in the morning, were hungry after the long journey and treated ourselves to lunch here. The wellness area, the Riverside Spa, is located in the valley, directly on the Petanu River, whose gentle rippling is sure to provide an additional moment of relaxation during the treatments. The wellness area also includes a pool that is located slightly above the river and offers a beautiful view of it. Another larger infinity pool with views of the tropical jungle is close to the main house. Other facilities include a children's pool, kids club, gym, boutique and a reading room with a small library. The center of Ubud is approximately 1.5 kilometers away. The hotel offers a free shuttle service, which we used for our city tour. We liked this: The location in the "jungle" is truly unique. Which hotel has its own hiking trail, the Forest Trail? The absolute peace and quiet in nature The sumptuous breakfast buffet Balinese music with dance performances in the evening We liked this less: The rooms in the main building are good, but not exceptional in contrast to the hotel's complex. The villas are probably even nicer, but of course also more expensive. The service is nice and friendly, but, as is typical for the country, when problems arise, they go into hiding so as not to lose face. Our conclusion: A nice hotel to start our Bali trip! We don't regret our choice. We will introduce you to a few more hotels in Bali, so stay tuned!
