This is the first and fastest Super Mario Bros. "game end glitch" (ACE) TAS (with original FDS ROM, no cartridge swap). Although this TAS is slower than the any% (warps) TAS, its primary goal is to achieve the impossible. It has everything: Second Quest, intentional death, killing Bowser, touching the axe, and rescuing (or encountering) five Princesses. This TAS has been fully console verified at least 3 times on the original hardware by Kosmic. Authors: threecreepio, OnehundredthCoin, HappyLee, Simplistic6502 & Kosmic TAS time: 05:29.96 Q & A Why the Minus World? To trigger the ACE glitch, we need to overflow the enemy slots twice in the same scene, using Long Firebars or Bowsers. No normal SMB1 level allows this. So we spent a year working in the FDS version's glitchy World -1 to make it happen. This TAS enters the Minus World twice. The first time is to "complete the game" and unlock the Second Quest. The second time is where the actual glitch setup takes place. Why Second Quest? We need four enemies loaded before the final Bowser for the second overflow. In First Quest, the Goomba before Bowser never turns around, so this setup fails. In Second Quest, it becomes a Buzzy Beetle, which can turn and walk to the right, making the setup possible. Why Luigi? During the second enemy overflow, the game writes to a different memory if you are playing as Mario or Luigi. Only Luigi writes to address $9C9D, which is required for the ACE in 3-1. Why get the Fire Flower? To defeat Bowser in World -1. Otherwise, the enemy slots would remain full, preventing new enemies from spawning. Why 3-1? After rewriting $9C9D and resetting, power-ups (such as Mushrooms) become glitched. We need a level with power-ups to perform ACE. 3-1 is the fastest option (2-1 and 7-1 also work, but are slower).
