Corsair fans are confusing

Prawn here with a quick video to talk to you about how and why Corsair fan wiring can be confusing. I think it's important to know when buying Corsair fans for your build because it can be complicated depending on what you've purchased. Corsair's original RGB fans, which you can still buy, had two cables per fan - RGB and fan power. One was marked "to RGB hub" with a yellow label. This cable was proprietary and needed and RGB node, LED node or a Commander Core or Commander Pro controller to work. You connect them to that and then to the USB header on your motherboard and you could control the fans via iCue. This was complicated and messy, because the controller was an additional purchase and the fans would not simply connect to the motherboard. Also because each fan had two cables that meant a LOT of cables in your case. Then came Corsair's iCue Link fans. Much easier to setup because they're interlocking fans which connect together and then can be simply connected to a controller via one cable. They can also be daisy chained together from one group to the next, so are in theory really easy to setup with one controller managing 24 devices. Wiring is simplified and less messy. BUT they're expensive. Then there's the more affordable fans like the RS120 and RS140 fans. These use standard universal fan power and RGB connectors meaning you can connect them directly to your motherboard. This is good news. They're also daisy chain, so fans can be wired together in terms of power and RGB and then extension leads connect from the group of fans to the motherboard. The downside here is they won't work with the iCue Link controller or the Corsair Commander Core or Commander Pro and so they're not controllable via iCue, which is obviously confusing in other ways. #corsair #CorsairFans So there are three fan types now essentially, all with different names...
