I had the pleasure of hosting Shujat Ali Khan at the Chelsea Theatre in London for one of my private mehfils. Here Shujat is singing “Ranjish Hi Sahi”, one of the most iconic ghazals of the 20th century written by Ahmad Faraz, made famous when it was sung by Mehdi Hassan. It is celebrated as a masterpiece of the ghazal genre renowned for its themes of unrequited love, pining, and the "delicious torture" of heartbreak. The first line is ..... " Ranjish hi sahi, dil hi dukhāne ke liye ā, Ā phir se mujhe chhoṛ ke jāne ke liye ā" ....translating to "Even if it is resentment, come—if only to hurt my heart.
