Ivory Coast, officially known as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is a country in West Africa located along the Atlantic coast. It shares borders with Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north, Ghana to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. Yamoussoukro is the political capital, while Abidjan is the largest city and main economic center. The country has a varied landscape, including sandy beaches and lagoons in the south, dense forests in the central regions, and savannas in the north. Ivory Coast has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season, with the southern areas being more humid and the north generally drier. Home to more than 27 million people, Ivory Coast is ethnically and culturally diverse. French is the official language, but many local languages are widely spoken, such as Dioula and Baoulé. The economy is one of the largest in West Africa, driven mainly by agriculture. The country is one of the world’s leading producers of cocoa beans, as well as an important exporter of coffee and cashew nuts. Ivorian culture is rich in music, dance, and art. Popular modern music genres like coupé-décalé and zouglou have gained influence across Francophone Africa. Traditional festivals, colorful clothing, and local dishes made with rice, plantains, cassava, and fish play an important role in daily life. Religion in Ivory Coast is diverse, with Islam and Christianity as the two main faiths, alongside traditional African beliefs. This mix contributes to a variety of cultural and religious celebrations throughout the year. Ivory Coast also offers many attractions for visitors, from vibrant cities to protected natural areas. Notable landmarks include the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Yamoussoukro, one of the largest churches in the world, and national parks such as Taï National Park and Comoé National Park, both recognized for their rich biodiversity.
