(c)1990 CBS Corporation This video was all I had of a March 19, 1990 edition of CBS This Morning. Beginning the piece is a report by CBS News reporter Richard Roth depicting Louis Farrakhan's rise to prominence from his days as a musician known as Calypso Louie to his rise to leader of the Nation of Islam following the deaths of Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad; to his heated, race-baiting rhetoric in his speeches and his linking with Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 Presidential campaigns (where he was pretty much Jackson's equivalent of Jeremiah Wright during the 2008 campaign). Following is an interview between Farrakhan and CBS This Morning host Harry Smith. Ultimately, Farrakhan's influence waned for a time after the 1995 Million Man March before re-emerging into public notice in 2005 (with his comments suggesting Hurricane Katrina's impact through New Orleans was the result of a destroyed levee and somehow targeted toward blacks; his recent embrace of Dianetics {while denying having converted to Scientology} and his former support of President Obama {supported him in 2008 before blasting him in 2011 following the invasion in Libya -- likely because Farrakhan was a close friend of longtime Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi})
