KARAJAN - BERLINER PHILHARMONIKER - GUSTAV MAHLER - SYMPHONY NO. 6 »We believe in the record and in the authenticity of pure analogue technology« Rainer Maillard and Sidney Claire Mayer talk about the mixing and editing process of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6 for the Originals Source Series. It was mixed directly from the original analog 8-track master tapes and transferred to a lacquer disc without any further intermediate steps - neither analog nor digital. Three additional analog tape machines and an echo chamber were used for support. Equipment used for the 2024 remixes: STUDER A80 1-inch, 8-track, 15 ips, Dolby-A, modified with preview head STUDER A807 1/2-inch, 4-track, 30 ips STUDER A80 1/2-inch, 4-track, 15 ips, modified with preview head STUDER A80 1/2-inch, 2-track, CCIR (recorder) NEUMANN VMS 80 cutting lathe with SX-74 cutter head and diamond styli 24-CHANNEL PASSIV MIXING DESK (EBS custom made) ECHO CHAMBER Originally produced and recorded by Cord Garben and Günter Hermanns at Berlin Philharmonie 1977. Mixed and cut directly from the 8-track original master tapes by Rainer Maillard & Sidney Claire Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios in 2024.
