A base-line video for students and researchers. Early spring shows dictyota algae covering the sea floor and many coral formations. Dictyota is a vector for many coral diseases and is capable of carring the vibreo bacteria which is associated with Yellow Band Disease. Contrary to some research it is highly probably that massive amounts of this algae can spread vibreo bacteria causing Yellow Band Disease outbreaks. It is also probable that fish may spread the disease by injesting the vibreo bacteria while grazing on dictyota algae that is ultimately pooped out over healthy living coral. This could be how Yellow Band disease starts . Unfortunately, today, in 2026 researchers are focusing on the Climate Change causes of corals decline rather than on a proven culprate, Nutrient Overloading. Warming oceans promote algal growth. Algae carry the diseases. A reduction in nutrient loading will save coral but it is very unpopular among developers and farmers.
