In August 2014, a as part of the campaign ‘Step off the elephant’ (Stap van de olifant af), World Animal Protection launched the first ever 3D printed petition. Each time someone pledged to never (again) ride an elephant, five 3D printers were set in motion at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and a small piece of a life-size 3D elephant was printed. Filmmaker Klaas Arie Westland documented the campaign from beginning to end, focusing mainly on the technical and interpersonal boundaries that needed to be pushed to create this project. This resulted in a beautiful short documentary about the project with the focus on 3D printing. Animal entertainment is animal abuse: Every day, animals suffer in the name of entertainment. Right now, thousands of people are visiting attractions to interact and take photographs with wild animals, unaware of the animal suffering they cause. Visit the campaign website and share our video’s to let people know the truth before they book and help keep wild animals in the wild. Find out more: beforetheybook.org
