Known affectionately as "The Bondi Rabbi," Eli was not just a leader but a force of nature—a man who lived to amplify light in the face of darkness. For 18 years, Rabbi Schlanger served as a Shliach (emissary) at Chabad of Bondi, where he was the driving force behind the beloved "Chanukah by the Sea" event—the very celebration where he spent his final moments bringing joy to others. His dedication extended far beyond the synagogue walls; as a chaplain for NSW Corrective Services and St. Vincent's Hospital, he brought comfort to the sick and the incarcerated, seeing the divine spark in every soul he met. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Chayale, and their five beautiful children, including a newborn son who entered the covenant only weeks ago. To his family, we offer our deepest, most loving support. We stand with you, heartbroken but united, promising that Eli’s legacy of kindness will never be forgotten. Go gently on your journey into the afterlife, Rabbi. You toiled tirelessly in this mortal coil to make the world a brighter place. Your mission is complete, but your light remains. !!
