The Devil's Kitchen is a natural wonder in Snowdonia national park. This hike takes you up the devil's kitchen on to Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. I parked in the free car park on the main road about 0.5km from the Youth Hostel. We begin this walk at Idwal YHA where there is a paid car park costing roughly £3 (I arrived at 2:00pm and it was full). From here we cross the bridge and head right towards Llyn Idwal. This is a popular spot and will be fairly busy with picnic folk during the warmer months. Walking to the far end of the lake we break of the shoreline path and head towards The Devil''s Kitchen. An imposing ascent, this is steep but not classed as an official 'scramble'. Once most of the height has been gained there is a walk over to look up at the imposing waterfall that creates the 'steam' from The Devil's Kitchen. Continuing up we reach a style over a wall which marks the end of the steepest section. The path then levels for a short time before meeting the ascent on the left to Glyder Fawr. This ascent is again steep but also a little scrabbly. Once the crest has been reached it is a steady ascent to the summit. From here, there is a rocky walk over to Glyder Fach. The path goes straight past this summit but I decided to clamber up the rocky top. Nearby is The Cantilever Stone, a precariously balanced and very recognisable feature of the mountain. After a turn on the Cantilever, we head down the scrabbly descent past Tryfan where it levels out and the path back to the YHA becomes steady. This a fantastic hike and one of the best walks in Wales which can be done in around half a day. I hope you enjoy the video and the walk if you choose it!
