Some confusion has arisen recently about the ability of ESR meters to accurately read the values of tube-amplifier power supply electrolytic capacitors, in-circuit. Misinterpretation of a video posted by AnaTek, manufacturer of the Blue ESR Meter, stating that in-circuit measurements were not accurate in "power supply rails" (PSR) has added to this confusion. In this video I will demonstrate that 1.) The AnaTek video was not describing the PSR normally found in tube amplifier circuits 2.) The Blue ESR meter does give reliable readings on in-circuit tube-amp power supply electrolytics. Link to the AnaTek video: • ESR70 & Blue ESR meters, comparison, ... Segment of interest: 6:50 to 8:00 At first, I thought he simply left the internodal resistors out of the diagram, but it appears that he is describing a circuit that does not have them, i.e. the electrolytics are indeed in parallel (unlike those in virtually all tube amp power supplies).
