Check out our full line of Industrial Hardware on our website: https://www.rspsupply.com/ 1-Temperature Matters · As temperatures increase or decrease the efficiency and effectiveness of your battery is impacted. · Amp Hour Rating o As temperatures drop the amp-hour rating of your battery will decrease o As temperatures increase, the amp-hour rating of your batter will also increase. o Most batteries normal operating temperature is somewhere around 77 degrees · Battery charging voltage changes with temperature o Vary from 16.4 volts to 13.8 volts. · Battery life is increased as temperature drops and decreased as temps go up. o -22F will increase battery life by up to 60% o In environments over 77, every fifteen degree increase will cut battery life in half. 2-DOD of discharge matters · The deeper a battery is discharged, the shorter the life span of the batter will be in most cases. · Batteries that are discharged to 20% as opposed to 50% will typically last twice as long. · Battery life is directly related to how deep the battery is cycled 3-Size it properly · It is important when sizing a battery to plan for a depth of discharge no greater that 50% to increase the life span of the battery · A Typical industrial battery system should provide between 3-7 days of batter life. 4-Battery construction is important · Battery design plays an important role in longevity of a battery o Flooded Lead Acid Batteries with suspended plates will typically have a shorter life than a “sealed lead acid” or “maintenance free “ Batteries with immobilized plates in applications where there is a lot of movement. o Plate thickness is important allows for rougher environments and allows for more cycles. Thicker plates equal a heavier battery 5-Don’t undercharge · This is caused by not allowing enough time for the battery to reach a 100% or charge before reuse. · Continually allowing the battery to operate the batter in a partial state of charge will quickly lead to lead sulfate formation, which will reduce the performance of the battery and lead to premature battery failure.
