http://www.socalbraincenter.com Hi, I am Dr. Julie Brown, your concussion doctor, board certified Chiropractic Neurologist and fellow in TBI and brain injury. TBI is a brain injury. Let's talk about the word 'chiropractic' though. When I said that word, it may have made you scared or excited. People have preconceived notions or feelings with the word chiropractic. They think I'm breaking necks, which I am not, or popping bones, and they either love it or they hate it. I purposely named my clinic, Southern California Brain Center because I didn't want people to either come in or not come in because of that word. My scope is the spine and everything that involves the spine. Spine instability is controlled by the brain, so it makes sense for me to really understand the nervous system, which is your brain and spinal cord and peripheral nerves that go out to your muscles. It makes sense to understand those things, as that's what controls the spine. Chiropractic neurology, really to me, is chiropractic in the understanding of what the nervous system does. People wonder how I'm different from medical neurologists. We are both needed. That's what we are. I don't prescribe medication. I definitely don't do surgery, though it could be cool. I don't do it. I need to be able to identify what patients actually need that, and I also need to know how to reach out to medical neurologists and say, hey, let me rehab and co-manage this patient with you. We're needed everywhere. The brain, it controls everything, so it's like the word 'psychiatrist' or, I call it talk therapy because there's a stigma I think with the word seeing a therapist for emotional reasons or psychological reasons. There's a lot of stigma around it, like the word 'chiropractic'. But I refer out to talk therapists because I need patients to activate brain differently. I refer to optometrists because I may need the eye looked at, even though I do a lot with eye motion because that directly goes down to stabilize the brain. But we very much fit in this world, and there's not a lot of us. So it makes it harder for people to know what we do. That's why I offer free 20-minute consults to give people a little understanding if they are looking to want to come in. So if you would like to know more and follow more, go ahead and click below. I have a website. You can click on the website and go there. Or right here there's a little icon where you can subscribe to the YouTube channel, and I will be talking about parts of the brain.
