John Blow (1649-1708) was a Chapel Royal chorister before two separate tenures as Organist at Westminster Abbey from 1668, giving up the role for his pupil Henry Purcell in 1679 and reclaiming the post after his death in 1697. During this break, Blow served as Organist and Choirmaster at the newly consecrated St Pauls Cathedral in 1687, was a private musician of James II, and was briefly the Organist of St Margarets Westminster. In 1700, Blow was officially made Composer to the Chapel Royal. Blow's Salvator Mundi - a rare example of latin-texted English Baroque music - echoes the Italian models of the time. 'O Saviour of the world, save us, who by thy cross and blood hast redeemed us, help us, we pray thee, O Lord our God.'
