What a special place Levis's Corner House is in Ballydehob. A pub, a grocery store, a live music venue and the location for NeighbourFood. Joe and Caroline, the dynamic duo are the driving force behind this community hub and we were delighted to catch up with them both and hear their NeighbourFood story. You can shop each week at NeighbourFood.ie/Ballydehob **** I'm Joe, Joe O'Leary. We're here in Levis's Corner House. The back of Levis's Corner House in the outback, and yeah, we've been doing NeighbourFood now, coming up to 12 months. NeighbourFood came to us very naturally last year, in the greatest year of all, 2020, during lockdown. Jack was in touch with us saying, "Will you join this new thing? We've set up a new online farmers market." And we were like going, "Jack, we're having babies. We have no time." We're actually on the way to the hospital, I think. I think with little Lucas about to go out, I said, "Jack, I'll come back to on that." And he was like, "Okay, cool." People in West Cork love food and they do it well and they eat well. It's one of the joys of living down here, like great quality air, great quality food, great quality people. Like, I mean, why wouldn't you like? Hard? I always say it's like an amazing place to live and a really difficult place to make a living. This place has never been just a pub. It's been a grocery store. It's a live music venue. And in some ways it's come back to full circle now to the grocery store. The thing I love about NeighbourFood is it creates a gorgeous dynamic in the village on a Wednesday morning. The loveliest things about NeighbourFood Food is that it changes every week. Particularly as we move through the seasons, there's new products coming onto the list all the time. The producers are being more inventive because they have this regular market to bring their produce to. And it's great that we're supporting that creativity. West Cork in general is made up, as I was saying, it's made up of beautiful mix of indigenous people that have been here for like centuries mixed with the total blow ins. And I'm kind of a blo-cal 'cause I'm a local with... Sorry, I'm a blow in with local ties So I'm a blo-cal right? That's what they call me, honestly. "Joe, You're just one step up from a blow in!" We're delighted to be able to support our community. People that would have come to our gigs and to the bar. And in turn, the people who you buy from NeighbourFood are part of our community. And we're very happy to support that. And for us, it's been a lifeline. It's been lovely to have the door open. Come on down, come on down. If you want to shop local, if you want to shop good quality, if you want to shop basically organic, or very good quality. Come on down to Ballydehob on a Wednesday morning actually online 'till the Monday night, but Wednesday morning we're here. Every Wednesday morning, hopefully for the foreseeable future.
