Taiwan was returned to China after world war 2 in 1945. The KMT government took adminstration of this island in October. The Chinese civil war with the Communist resumed shortly afterwards. The Chinese Communist intentionally provoked tensions on Taiwan between bengshengren (Hoklo Taiwanese people) and Waishengren (Chinese people who came to Taiwan after 1945 and Japan left) to undermine the Kuomintang and Chiang Kai Shek Phillips, Steven E. Between Assimilation and Independence: The Taiwanese Encounter with Nationalist China, 1945–1950. Stanford University Press, 2003. provides a detailed examination. Phillips discusses how the Communist exploited KMT missteps through propaganda. This exploded into the Febraury 28, 1947 incident in which the Communist inspired 27th brigade, along side Taiwan independence seperatists revolted against the KMT. The KMT suppressed and liquidated them. The ones that survived the 228 incident either fled to Beijing and became a party known as the Taiwan "Self Government leauge" where they still exist today as a puppet party. The Taiwan Separatists who didnt go to Beijing and either went into hiding or went to the United States like Lee Teng Hui (Who was a Communist Party of China member at one point). They came back in the 1990s as the liberals and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which are the ruling party of Taiwan today. Since then, the DPP uses the 228 incident as a rallying call for "Taiwanese self identity" and "independence from China." We can conclude that the Chinese Communist in the past, supported Taiwan separatism to undermine the Kuomintang national government. Their goal was to obscure the "Republic of China" so the "People's Republic of China" no longer has a competitor for legitimacy and has narrative control. In the 1950s and 1960s, Communist radio broadcasts and leaflets in the 1950s portrayed the KMT as an oppressive regime, aiming to alienate native Taiwanese cause division on the island 0:00 The National Ideal of Lenin 5:32 China copied Lenin's seperatism policy 8:10 Taiwan 11:04 228 Incident which is a TW Independence landmark was supported by CCP 13:10 CPC might secretly tolerate the TW Indpendence movement atleast for now CHECK OUT MY OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA USING THE LINK BELOW: https://linktr.ee/Captaincool
