Thanks to tools made by @supadupaplex5290 and @3Triang3l3 i was able to add custom files to the ps2 version of Half-Life. For fun, i decided to add some of the official PC multiplayer maps that didn't get ported to the PS2 (as well as a particular custom map). The footage seen is running in emulation, but i have confirmed it works on a real ps2. ps2-hl-tools by supadupaplex (used to extract pak files) https://github.com/supadupaplex/ps2-h... bs2pc by Triang3l (used to convert PC Half Life .bsp's to PS2 Half Life .bs2's) https://github.com/Triang3l/BS2PC Video by @GeckonCZ with instructions on enabling the developer console on PS2: • Half-Life Playstation 2 - Developer console ==== HOW TO ==== Overall, doing this is a bit of a pain. If you want to do this yourself be aware that you'll need to do some hex editing and running programs from the command-line, so being comfortable with doing both those things helps. You need to rip the files from an original PS2 HL iso (mount it in windows explorer and copy the files off of it to a folder somewhere) You can follow GeckonCZ's video regarding hex editing the executable file (SLUS_200.66) to enable the dev console. You can also edit the CONFIG.CFG in the valve folder to add the command "developer 1" (you should also change the toggleconsole bind as the tilde key doesn't seem to work on PCSX2) Use paktool in ps2-hl-tools to essentially unzip the PAK0.PAK from the VALVE folder and the PAK0.PAK from the DECAY folder of the copied game files (you might have to rename one of them to put them in the same folder), this will unzip each of them into a new folder, within that folder will be subfolders (gfx, maps, models, sounds, etc). Make a copy of all of the maps from both map folders and place them into the same folder as bs2pc.exe. From here, follow the "PC Half-Life or Quake maps to PS2" instructions on the bs2pc github page to create .bs2pcwad file and to convert your .bsp maps to .bs2. Once you have converted your maps, copy the .bs2's into the maps folder of the extracted PAK0 from the VALVE folder. (Or from the DECAY folder if you want to use those levels in decay. just know any maps in the DECAY pak0 will only be accessible in-game while playing decay) Use paktool to repack the folder containing the pak0 files. (You don't have to repack PAK0.PAK from the DECAY folder if you haven't modified it). Replace the PAK0.PAK from the VALVE folder of the extracted Half Life ISO with the new PAK0.PAK file you've just created with paktool. Use the program UltraISO to repack the files (File - New - PS2 CD Image - Select SYSTEM.CNF from the extracted game files - File - Save As...). (You don't have to buy ultraISO, the trial version will work) If you are playing on emulator you can save as either .BIN/CUE or .ISO. If you want to use this on a real PS2 with OPL, save as .BIN/CUE and then use the program OPL-Manager to convert the .BIN to an .ISO that OPL can work with. (Tools - Disc/Convert to ISO). Boot up the game. Load into any map (Either start/load a game, go to the Hazard Course or start Head-To-Head), either plug in a usb keyboard or enable HID Keyboard in PCSX2's controller settings, hit ~ (or any key you might have bound the console to) to open the console and type "map -mapname-" to load your custom map. =========== Go show some support to supadupaplex, Triang3l and GeckonCZ for making the tools/information available to allow me to fumble my way into getting this to work, they really did the heavy lifting on this one. Also go and play supadupaplex's awesome port of Blue Shift to the PS2 https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-... I'm going to try and make some custom missions for decay now. =========== CHAPTERS Start 00:00 Bounce 00:31 Subtransit 01:26 Rapidcore 02:15 Crossfire 03:09 Splitscreen on Crossfire 03:35 Rats 04:37 ===========
