Here is the third video about tense, aspect & mood (TAM)-marking in Pama-Nyungan languages of Australia. In the previous video we looked at four related languages, and found a lot of variation in their TAM-inventories (both when it comes to the TAM-categories there are and to the suffixes used to mark those categories). Here, I thought it could be interesting to look at three traditionally neighbouring Aboriginal languages, the closely related Ngarla and Nyamal, and the only distantly related Nyangumarta. As will be shown in this video, there are clear differences between Ngarla and Nyamal, on the one hand, and Nyangumarta on the other. But when it comes to the TAM-categories that the three languages have, the similarities are actually bigger than the differences here… Why might that be? NOTE: SINCE I RECORDED THIS VIDEO IT HAS BEEN POINTED OUT TO ME THAT ‘ABORIGINE’ SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A DEROGATORY TERM. I WASN’T AWARE OF THAT AT THE TIME OF THE RECORDING. WELL, I’LL UPLOAD THE VIDEO ANYWAY, SINCE I HAVE RECORDED IT. I DON’T HAVE TIME TO RE-RECORD IT (BECAUSE TIME IS SOMETHING I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF AT THE MOMENT.) WE’LL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THAT. #Verbs, #Conjugation, #VerbalConjugation, #Tense, #Aspect, #Mood, #VowelHarmony, #Imperative, #Purposive, #Future, #RemoteFuture, #Present, #Past, #ContinuousPast, #Speculative, #Hortative, #Contrafactual, #Counterfactual, #Anticipatory, #Perfect, #RemotePast, #Usitative, #Prospective, #Optative, #PresentContrafactual, #PastContrafactual, #RemotePastContrafactual, #Ngarla, #Nyamal, #Martuthunira, #Panyjima, #Banjima, #Nyangumarta, #CoastalNyangumarta, #InlandNyangumarta, #Ngayarta, #Marrngu, #PamaNyungan, #Pilbara, #WesternAustralia,
