Lassen County Susanville California On July 23, 2022, the Susanville CHP Communications Center alerted officers to a stolen white GMC Sierra Denali pickup tracked by a CHP helicopter. The vehicle was headed east on SR-44 near Shingletown, moving towards Susanville. The center also had OnStar tracking the truck, which could be used to slow it to a stop. After a failed spike strip attempt at the sand sheds on SR-44, the truck sped towards Susanville on SR-36 at nearly 100 MPH. It finally slowed after hitting a spike strip on Main Street in Susanville. The suspect, Josie Mariah Craig, then fled on foot near Main Street and North Gay Street. Two bystanders saw Craig escaping and intervened, tripping and tackling her, aiding in her capture by the police. During the altercation, Craig bit both individuals, causing them minor injuries.
