Sigh. Sometimes it just doesn't work quite right. Today that works both ways. I'm attending the Railroad Hobby Show, hosted by the Amherst Railroad Society at the "Big E" in Springfield, MA this weekend. First, the weather. I've been trying to attend this show for the better part of a decade. Scheduling issues, life issues, a global pandemic... this was going to be my year (and honestly, it has been). Naturally, a massive winter storm the likes of which have not been seen for several years is hitting this weekend. I had planned on going home Sunday after lunch, but that has been brought forward to Saturday at, if not before, show close. Because of the weather, a couple of modules that had previously committed have had to pull out at last minute. That means James, the layout planner for New England Free-mo (which hosts the Free-mo layout for this show) had to make multiple adjustments to the layout plan as the sun was rising on Friday - setup day. I have a couple of light stands that I use for this, but I could only find one. I ordered a couple more on Amazon that were supposed to arrive on Wednesday, but they were delayed. I'll have them for next weekend at Timonium! I set up two cameras for this setup, and you'll notice only one appears in this video. For whatever reason the Insta360 One R which I placed at the other end of the space didn't record. It was dutifully flashing the red LED that indicates it's recording, and when I pulled it down to leave for the evening I hit record and it showed the "Saving Video 0%" splash screen, but then it just... stopped. Nothing on the card indicates that it recorded anything. I ran a chkdsk which didn't turn up anything new (or any filesystem errors), it seems to have just vanished into thin air. I'll put the card into my other machine when I get home and see if data recovery can find anything. And of course, the risks of doing anything time-based at a public event like this, is that someone decides the camera is in the way and moves it - without putting it back when they're done. You'll notice a bit of a jump in the beginning where exactly this happens. Still, all things considered, it is a fun video. Thanks NEFree-mo for having me along, I've had a great time so far and looking forward to watching the layout in action tomorrow!!
