The £80 Mouse Problem Solved! USB Adapter & CF Card for Acorn Archimedes

Today, we're bringing my personal Acorn Archimedes into the 21st century with a couple of essential upgrades! In this video, I'll show you how to build a USB adapter that allows you to use a modern optical mouse on the Acorn Archimedes and install a CF card as a faster, more reliable storage solution. Original Acorn mice are tough to come by and can cost around £80 so I reached out to TruMouse.com to make this upgrade happen. We’ll start by building the USB adapter on a heat plate with solder paste to handle the SMD components. With the adapter, I'll be able to connect any USB optical mouse to this vintage machine. After that, we’ll tackle storage by installing a compatible CF card. The Archimedes can be picky with CF adapters, so I’ll share a link to the one that finally worked! For anyone following along, I’ve also created an HDF image of my finished setup with installed software, which you can download to try out on your own system.
