This is my conversation with Andrea Boccadoro. It took place in April 2025 from Air-Edel Studio 2 Andrea Boccadoro is an award-winning, Italian British composer for film, TV and video games. He recently scored the thriller, ‘Honey Bunch’, directed by Madeleine Sims- Fewer & Dusty Mancinelli, which had its world premiere at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2025. Prior to this, he composed the original score for the French feature film ‘After The Fire’, premiered at TIFF in 2023, and the psychological horror ‘Home Education’, starring Julia Ormond and Lydia Page. In 2021, Andrea composed the score for ‘The Legionnaire’, winner of the Best Emerging Director Award at the 74th Locarno Film Festival. On the same year, he composed for the Amazon exclusive series ‘Veleno: The Town of Lost Children’, directed by Hugo Berkeley and winner of the Italian Golden Globe for Best Documentary. In 2020, he scored Canadian feature film ‘Violation’ by directors Madeleine Sims-Fewer & Dusty Mancinelli, nominated for 5 Canadian Screen Awards. Andrea composed music for numerous short films, most recently ‘Descente (4am)’ by Mehdi Fikri, which was premiered at the 78th Venice Film Festival in the prestigious Orizzonti section. In 2019, Andrea received the Prix Cinezik for the original music of ‘Scaramouche Scaramouche’ (dir. Arthur Môlard) at the 20th Aubagne International Film Festival. In the same year, he was awarded the Universal Music Publishing Award at the 14th Cortinametraggio film festival, for the music of ‘L'Interprete’ by Hleb Papou. In 2015, he won a Jerry Goldsmith Award for his composition ‘Song for Adele’. Andrea's work in video games has been critically acclaimed, with his score for Devolver's ‘Card Shark’ being nominated for a Music + Sound Award in 2022. His earlier game title ‘Astrologaster’ also earned him an Excellence in Audio nomination at the Independent Games Festival, and three G.A.N.G. award nominations. Born in Rome, Andrea studied Philosophy at Sapienza University, and Classical Composition at the Luisa D'Annunzio Conservatoire in Pescara. He moved to London in 2013 to complete his studies at the Royal College of Music, where he was awarded an MMus in Composition for Screen. In 2016, Andrea was the Music Creative in residence at the Hospital Club in London. In 2018, he was selected to be part of the Berlinale Talents, and since then he has collaborated with several talents from the programme. Andrea is married to classical violinist, soprano and conductor Gabriela Opacka- Boccadoro, who has contributed as a performer to several of his scores. They're based in London, where they make music full time as part of a vibrant, international music scene.
