Hallux Rigidus is something I have dealt with for 6 years and finally the day has come for surgery to clean up the joint. In this video I talk about the upcoming surgery, on the morning of surgery. Bilateral Cheilectomy! While I had tried to prepare for surgery with nutrition and activity, I found that I was limited by life and my own motivation. Preparing for something that I knew would put me out of commission for 6-8 weeks was really a challenge and I struggled to stay on track. In this video I share a little bit about what hallux rigidus is and how much it has affected my own feet. It was shocking in this video, even to myself, when I pulled my big toe back and noticed the limitation of the range of motion. This is a huge issue for me in the sports I like to do and the activities I enjoy with my family. Something needs to be done. The scary thing with this surgery is that I have similar hallux rigidus on both sides, which will necessitate doing the surgery on both sides. I convinced my surgeon to do both sides at the same time. He said I would most likely hate him afterward, but I don't see the point of being down twice. From my experience, you may decide to do both feet at the same time, or you may decide it is not right for you. Either way, this series should help you see what the process is like and go into it with more knowledge and preparation. I will add more information following surgery and will share each step and speed bump. I am working toward some big goals in the next couple of years, and I really need these toes to cooperate.
