Can you photograph sand dunes without actually going to a desert? That was my challenge this week from the Fred Miranda community. Instead of driving hours to Glamis or Death Valley, I decided to see if I could find "interpretive" dunes right here in Redlands, California. From a sunset trek into the (surprisingly full) Santa Ana River Wash to a morning scouting mission at the San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary, this episode is all about making the most of the landscapes in your own backyard. I'll walk you through my thought process, my gear (Nikon ZR + 40mm f/2), and how I used Capture One to turn a small patch of wet river silt into a "God’s eye view" of a vast desert landscape. In this episode: 00:00 PRE-VIS 01:13 THE PIVOT 02:03 THE GEAR 02:32 THE EDIT 03:11 THE RESULT 03:21 THE LESSON The best part of a photo assignment isn't the final frame, it's the excuse to go out, explore, and even do a little unplanned trainspotting. #LandscapePhotography #PhotographyChallenge #Redlands #SanTimoteo #NikonZR #FredMiranda #MacroPhotography #CaliforniaPhotography
