Well, yes, the answer is it is possible. It depends on the indication for which you are going in for the caesarian. That can be divided into the reasons for the mother, the baby or certain reasons in the uterus. the mother may have had a kind of a medical disorder such as a severe heart disease which does not permit her to undertake labour pains or she is suffering from certain HIV or genital herpes, which does not allow normal delivery to happen because the passage of the secretion through the normal birth passage could pass on to the new born. Then there could be reasons with the baby itself. The baby could be too large for the passage of a normal delivery or the baby not be in a normal position. We usually want the head to come down first. But if it is a breech or a transverse lie, you may land up having a caesarian again. There could be reasons with the placenta also. The placenta could be low lying that could be called as the placenta previa and in that case also you have to go in for an elective planned caesarian. When you may have had previous surgeries of the uterus, the commonest being a previous caesarian itself. So in case if people who have had previous caesarian, there is a trial possible for which certain criteria have to be considered. So if you fit into that criteria, then you may go in for a normal delivery, else you may be having a planned caesarian again. There may be other surgeries on the uterus also such as a myomectomy, which is a fibroid removal or procedure which leaves a scar on the uterus. So all said and done, these are the normal indications for which you would be having a scheduled caesarian. The timing of the caesarian is equally important because we want a healthy new born. So the earliest possible is a week prior to the expected due date, which is 39 weeks of gestation. So you can discuss this with your doctor and go ahead with a planned caesarian.
