Kennack Sands, Cornwall in 5k
Kennack Sands sits on the more sheltered eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula. Despite its fairly remote location it is very popular. The beach here is divided into what are referred to as Kennack Sands West and Kennack Sands East and become more-or-less separate at high tide. Dividing the two is a rocky outcrop called the Caerverracks. To the eastern end of the beach are the remains of a number of World War II defences. There are pill boxes on the hillside and a quite extensive anti-tank wall running along the back of the beach. The area backing this end of the beach is designated a nature reserve and is home to many species of flora and fauna that only flourish in this unique coastal habitat.
