What to do with all the plantation trees, that are to small for a commercial purpose? The best thing to do is to create giant hugelkultur beds, by burying the Eucalyptus and Mimosa trees. This has a number of advantages, the first is that the water in the trees will be released slowly in the summer helping new plants grow. In the winter the wood will absorb water once again holding it till next summer, thus creating a micro water cycle. The second is that the wood breaks down over a number of years, creating a nutrient level in the soil which the new tree roots can tap into. The third is that the carbon stored in the trees is trapped and converted into soil, with minimal loss.
