Today we joyfully complete the Book of Exodus as the Tabernacle is fully constructed, assembled, and filled with God's glory, while Jesus delivers the beginning of His Olivet Discourse—foretelling the destruction of the temple and signs of the end times, including the Great Tribulation. From the Torah Exodus 39 The skilled workers complete all the Tabernacle furnishings and priestly garments exactly as the LORD commanded Moses: The ephod, breastpiece with 12 stones engraved with the tribes, robe with pomegranates and gold bells, tunics, sashes, turbans with the gold plate "Holiness to the LORD," and undergarments. All items are brought to Moses for inspection; he sees that everything is made precisely according to the pattern shown on the mountain and blesses the people for their faithful obedience. Exodus 40 Moses assembles the Tabernacle on the first day of the first month in the second year after leaving Egypt: He sets up the frames, curtains, veil, Ark of the Covenant (with mercy seat), Table, Lampstand, Altar of Incense, Altar of Burnt Offering, Basin, and courtyard hangings. He anoints the Tabernacle and all its furnishings, consecrates the altar and priests, and arranges the bread, lamps, and incense. The cloud covers the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD fills the Tabernacle so that even Moses cannot enter. From then on, the cloud guides Israel: when it lifts, they journey; when it rests, they camp. The glory of the LORD remains over the Tabernacle by day and appears as fire by night throughout all their journeys. (End of Exodus—yay! God dwells among His people.) From the New Testament Matthew 24:1-22 (divided into relevant sections) Matthew 24:1-14 Signs of the End Times: As Jesus leaves the temple, the disciples point out its buildings. Jesus prophesies that not one stone will be left upon another—the temple will be destroyed. On the Mount of Olives, the disciples ask: When will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and the end of the age? Jesus warns of deception, false messiahs, wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes—these are the beginning of birth pains. Believers will face persecution, betrayal, hatred, and false prophets; many will fall away, but the one who endures to the end will be saved. The gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:15-22 The Great Tribulation: When you see the abomination of desolation (spoken of by Daniel) standing in the holy place, those in Judea must flee to the mountains immediately—without delay. It will be a time of great distress unequaled from the beginning of the world until now or ever again. If those days were not cut short, no one would survive—but for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.
