Welcome to your Beaufort County News Headlines, I’m Matt Goldin and here are today’s top stories: -The Transportation Advisory Committee will meet today at 1pm in the New Riverside Barn located at 30 Red Barn Drive in Bluffton. The Beaufort County Transportation Committee formulates a county transportation plan to establish aims and goals of the committee, approve the expenditure of C Funds in compliance with South Carolina Code and make annual reports to the South Carolina Department of Transportation of expenditures in accordance with South Carolina law. The meeting will be broadcast in full here on BCTV and simulcast on YouTube.com forward slash @BeaufortCountyTV. -The Town of Bluffton’s Historic Preservation Commission will meet today at 6pm in the Henry E McCracken Jr. Council Chambers located at 20 Bridge Street in Bluffton. Agenda items include the old business of reviewing 4 requests for certificates of appropriateness on properties located on Blue Crabb Street in Bluffton. New Business includes a request for a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new 2 story main house and a 2 story attached carriage house on Garfield’s Way in the Moss Oaks Subdivision within the Old Town Bluffton Historic District. Birding is back at Whitehall Park this morning from 8:30 to 10am with Beaufort County Naturalist Destiny Rains. The free bird walk does not require registration and will focus on our local avian species. Whitehall Park is a 9.72 acres of upland mixed pine and live oak forest at the base of the Woods Memorial Bridge on Lady's Island, across the Beaufort River from downtown Beaufort and opposite the highway from the Whitehall Boat Ramp. Whale Branch Elementary School students celebrated African American History Month with an HBCU-themed program featuring an inspiring message from former American Idol winner Candice Glover and a performance by the Whale Branch Early College High School Marching Band. Beaufort County has begun accepting grant applications from County organizations wishing to receive grants from the three percent Local Accommodations Tax fund and two percent Local Hospitality Tax fund. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 31. In order to apply for this year’s three percent Local Accommodations Tax fund and two percent Local Hospitality Tax fund will host MANDATORY virtual workshops to help ensure proper application and expenditure of funds. This will also allow applicants to ask questions and get a better idea of the process. A representative from each organization must attend one of the workshops. The virtual workshops will be Tuesday March 3rd at 10am, Thursday March 5th at 3pm and Thursday, March 12th at 10am. The Bluffton Rotary Club will host their annual Oyster Roast at the Bluffton Oyster Factory this Friday, March 6th from 4:30 to 8:30pm in the Oyster Factory Park in in historic Bluffton. Tickets are $45 dollars in advance and $55 at the door, which includes all you can eat Fresh Roasted Local Oysters, Homemade chili, Bratwursts, Dogs, and Hand Cut Fries. Soda, beer and wine will be sold separately. A live band will perform throughout the event and all proceeds will go to support the Bluffton Rotary Club and their mission to foster fellowship and place service above self.
