I decided I wanted to give myself something really dumb to do that doesn't aggravate my carpal tunnel too badly and try a run of Pokémon Crystal using only Grass-Type Pokémon. I went out of my way to level up every Pokémon on this team to a level that made Bugsy's Scyther be as little of a pain in the ass as I could, with the exception of Paras, who wasn't gonna contribute much of anything for that portion of the fight, so I just had it gain levels at the gym, as well as Bugsy's first two Pokémon. Oddish and Bellsprout are both neutral against Fury Cutter, which allowed Oddish to survive two of them so I could Stun Spore the Scyther, allowing for Bellsprout to finish the job. The only downside to this strat is that Cut will now have to be on two of my Pokémon until Blackthorn, but it reallly is the stronger attack available at this point in the game , as you need to beat Bugsy to use Cut and get Headbutt. When you actually come into this with a plan, it's actually not that hard to beat Bugsy's Scyther, but it takes hours of grinding to get the levels necessary. Fortunately, the Pokémon in Union Cave (Geodude, Sandshrew, and especially Onix) are actually pretty good EXP for this point in the game as far as wild Pokémon are concerned. I figured it would be a good idea to make this video for posterity, since I know people will do dumb challenges like this in the future.
