CAMPING COMBO! - HAVEN Hammock + ONE WIND Tarp In Heavy Rain!

Hi! We're the FIBs! We like outdoor stuff like camping... and hiking. Recently we bought a couple Haven Hammock tents and tried them out in our back yard during heavy rainstorms. It's all good in the safety of your own yard, but we wanted to try them in a "real" camping situation. With trees. And a campfire. So, we reserved a campsite at Rock Cut State Park near Rockford, IL. Not exactly a real wilderness situation, but.... baby steps. One of the thing's we wanted to try was adding a One Wind tarp over the Haven Hammock. In our Haven rain test video, we discovered that if the included rainfly touches the bug net, condensation occurs. We thought if we could add a tarp over the Haven, we could eliminate that phenomenon. Surprisingly, we were able to test the situation since there was a massive downpour the evening of our campout. Our daughter, "GPG", slept in a vintage 1970's K-Mart pup tent. The exact same model I ("Skitter") had when I was a kid. I managed to find one on Ebay. Ahh, the nostalgia. I didn't trust that it was waterproof, given my experience with it in my youth, so I added a Wise Owl tarp over it. Just to be safe. Very glad I did that. After setting up the hammocks and tent, we went on a short day hike around Lake Pierce. We ate dinner at Lone Rock Cafe. Back at the camp site, we roasted marshmallows. And then... the rain. It started as a sprinkle, but quickly built up to a massive downpour! We were flooded and a mini river (stream?) ran right through the middle of our site, directly underneath "Punky". Although we were all dry, a giant puddle formed next to "GPG's" tent. Luckily the water never got inside, but it was scary. Good thing I put the Wise Owl tarp over her tent. This video was recorded in 2022 and, although we were allowed to use hammocks then, we've since discovered that Rock Cut now hates hammocks. Interesting, since there's no way I'd use a tent in the very spot we camped in. It's great for hammocks. Not for tents.
