NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at a TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. The speaker makes claims about anxiety and mental health treatments that are based on the speaker’s own views and experiences and are not supported by legitimate scientific evidence. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... When our kids are anxious, we are desperate to help! We mistakenly take things off their plates to ease their stress, unwittingly reinforcing the helpless that keeps anxiety in power. What if we did the opposite? It’s time to stop the anxiety pandemic that is hurting our young people and compromising their fulfilling future. Gain perspective on why kids are increasingly anxious and one simple solution to instill confidence in them from any age. Calm anxious kids by assigning chores. Watch the video to learn how psychotherapist, Youtuber and author of “You 1, Anxiety o”, Jodi Aman describes the kinds of chores that help kids feel good about themselves reducing anxiety and building skills they can use their whole lives. - Jodi has worked with over 10,000 families as a licensed psychotherapist for 20+ years, including ten years at Mt. Hope Family Center famous for advancing research in attachment parenting. She studied Child Play Therapy with Eliana Gil. Receiving her certification in Narrative Therapy from Dulwich Centre, she subsequently worked as a faculty member there, teaching other therapists in Norway, China, Mexico, Australia, Canada and the U.S. She is the author of four books–most notable is her best seller, You 1, Anxiety 0: Win your life back from fear and panic– and is currently writing a book on teen anxiety. Jodi’s biggest challenge, greatest joy and heaviest workload has been that of being a mom to Cal, Leo and Lily. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
