Patients often report to me some kind of symptom after surgery and ask "Is this normal?". Its a hard question to answer, and usually the answer is "its normal for you right now". Surgery is a controlled injury and there will be odd symptoms as the body heals, and it won't be the same from person to person. So it's all normal. At the same time, when a patient has issues after surgery our #1 job is to make sure there is not a significant surgical complication that requires intervention, as that is a serious issues that needs to be quickly addressed. But in the absence of that, usually the answer is to give the body time to heal, and provide whatever supportive care we can until that can happen.
