Far off the coast of Khao Lak lies a group of islands that still feel like they belong to nature: The Similan Islands. Nine small islands scattered across the Andaman Sea, protected as a national park and open only a few months each year. There are no big resorts, no nightlife, and strict limits on visitors — and that’s exactly what keeps them so pristine. The Similans are known for white sand, turquoise water, and some of the clearest diving in Thailand. But more than that, they’re one of the few places where you can still feel how the ocean once was — calm, wild, and untouched. This is a look at why the Similan Islands feel different from anywhere else in Thailand, and why I'm going back soon.
