What an amazing roller coaster ride it’s been for the past couple weeks. So many stores closed, activities and school canceled; it’s hard to keep up with all the changes. While Will has been serving in the Philippines for the last 24 months he’s had amazing experiences within the last couple weeks have brought new challenges to him and the other missionaries serving there. He’s been on quarantine the last two weeks and was surprisingly told by the president of the Philippines that all foreign people need to be out of the country in 72 hours. He ended up lifting that ban because there was far too many missionaries that needed to leave. The church hired five jumbo jets to bring home the missionaries serving in the 23 missions of the Philippines. I am so thankful that Will was one of these missionaries! And I’m so thankful that he didn’t miss out on too much more of his mission. Most of all, I’m so thankful he’s home! My sweet friend April works for a company called Card My Yard, where they bring signage to wish people "happy birthday" or "happy anniversary" or "welcome home". Didn’t it turn out SO great? Here’s our experience of going to the airport picking up Will. There was a lot of people there and we stayed back as long as we could but realized people were starting to collect near our van. We decided to head over to the far side of the garage at one of the window openings where we had a perfect view of the international hanger. We finally see Will walking out! Best day ever! Reuniting with Will was amazing! But watching it back on video brings tears to my eyes watching the little brothers see Will, and embrace Will for the first time in years. Such a sweet tender moment. We set up a time to do a "honk and wave" in our front yard so our friends and neighbors could drive by and see Will and welcome him home. Some even stopped to have a brief conversation while maintaining social distancing. It ended up being the most wonderful idea and experience ever! This darn corona virus has really put a wrench in so many of our plans, but this turned out perfectly!!!
