Last year, Guitar Center celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster with an inspiring event featuring Freaky Rob (Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Eminem) and Ari O’Neal (SZA, Lizzo, Beyonce). Held July 21, 2024, at Guitar Center Hollywood, the big party didn’t simply honor a legendary guitar, it also demonstrated the versatility and cultural impact of the Stratocaster with four original compositions by the two players. The first song is a homage to “retro funk meets Jimi Hendrix.” Song number two showcases the Strat’s stature in R&B music with an Ernie Isley vibe. For the third song, the duo went with a Stevie Ray Vaughan-inspired blues. The final song is a homage to Nile Rodgers and how his “Hitmaker” Strat tone affected pop music in the ’70s and ’80s. This exclusive video is a sonic journey into how the Fender Stratocaster left a massive impact on the music we love, as well as why this guitar continues to inspire players and songwriters today.
